While I have the laptop completely disassembled I will be thoroughly cleaning anything to do with GPU and CPU cooling.

The upgrade options have max TDP values of 35w, so I will have to somehow do something to keep the upgrade cool enough. Since the P9800 is so expensive right now, I think I will be happy with upgrading to the P9600 and it should provide a noticeable difference in performance. The other three CPU upgrade options would all double the L2 cache and progressively increase the core speed with the lowest increase from the P9550 and increase up to the P9800. The P9400 wouldn't be enough of an upgrade to justify spending the money. My choices that would actually make a difference in performance are to upgrade to either the P9550, P9600, or P9800(The T9800 is a little expensive so I will most likely go with one of the other 2 options. I don't think it is based on my previous experience with disassembling and fixing laptops. After that I will upgrade the CPU as long as it is not integrated into the motherboard's PCB.

My next upgrade will be to upgrade the RAM from the current 4GB(2x2GB) PC3-8500 to 8GB(2x4GB). I am currently a student to so I have access to free software(with product keys) like this.Ĥ.

I installed Windows 8 Pro 圆4 on the new SSD, which I obtained free of charge through the student program with what was previously called Dreamspark. Then I removed the stock magnetic/mechanical hard disk drive and replaced it with a 120GB ADATA SSD.ģ. I started out by flashing the newest bios version available, but I would much rather flash a customized bios which would allow more advanced settings, such as for CPU, RAM, etc.Ģ. I have finished some upgrading and I am also in the progress of upgrading it as much as possible.ġ. I legitimately obtained this laptop free of charge from a family member. I don't really want to have to purchase a new laptop for at least 2 years. I am wanting to upgrade it so that I will have a decently performing laptop. The laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T400, Type: 2767-AG3.
